Payment policy

How fares are calculated, when they are due, and how they are paid — directly to the driver.

Effective date: 24 August 2026

1.Who pays whom

A passenger pays the driver directly, using UPI, to the driver's own UPI ID. Chaloo is never in the middle of the transaction — it does not collect the fare, does not hold it in any account of its own, and does not pay drivers out. The driver sees the money in their own bank account the moment the UPI transfer settles, the same as any other UPI payment they receive.

2.When payment is collected

Payment is not collected when a ride is booked. The fare depends on the distance actually travelled, so it can only be calculated once the ride is finished. The fare becomes due, and payable, only after the driver marks the passenger dropped off — at which point the passenger sees the exact amount and can pay it. Nothing is charged before that point.

3.How the fare is calculated

Fare = distance travelled (in km) × the published per-km rate × number of seats booked, subject to a minimum fare per drop-off. Both the rate and the minimum are published on the platform and may change over time; a fare already charged is never affected by a later rate change.

4.Platform fee

Chaloo does not currently charge passengers or drivers a platform or service fee. The full fare — distance travelled × the published per-km rate × seats, subject to the minimum fare — is paid directly to the driver. Chaloo never collects, holds, or transmits the fare itself.

5.Taxes

Prices shown do not currently include GST. Chaloo's operator is not currently registered for GST. This policy will be updated if and when GST registration applies to the business.

6.Payment methods

Payment is by UPI only, opened directly in your own UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any other), pre-filled with the driver's UPI ID and the exact fare. Chaloo never sees or stores your card number, UPI PIN, or bank credentials, and has no payment gateway or merchant account of its own — the transfer happens entirely between your bank and the driver's.

7.Confirming payment

Because Chaloo is not a party to the UPI transfer, it has no independent way to verify that one happened — a driver taps "Payment received" once the money has actually arrived in their account, and that confirmation is what the platform records. If a driver confirms receipt of a payment they were not actually paid, or a dispute arises over whether a payment was sent, that is a dispute between the passenger and driver; contact support (below) and it will be reviewed.

8.Security

Chaloo stores only the outcome of a payment (paid/pending, amount, timestamp) and the driver's UPI ID, encrypted at rest — never a card number, UPI PIN, or bank credential, none of which ever passes through Chaloo's systems.
